Hoping to make a difference

Although we are creating documents to address problems that actually (or hypothetically) exist, I possess a childlike faith that makes almost anything seem possible.  My team is preparing to address the needs of our college community in the childcare arena. We do not personally have young children at home, but desire to work with them in the academic setting.

I am honored to be collaborating with my teammates and sincerely hope that we can create a proposal that will offer plausible solutions, yielding tangible results, in order to make a distinct difference in the services provided to the UMCP community.  The University of Maryland faculty, staff and students deserve affordable, on-campus childcare. It is well within our reach!

Additional task as a Mistress...?

If you're not busy tonight, come to the Gospel Fest at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, MD. This evening, Friday, February 21, from 6:00pm – 9:30pm the program will be held in the Kauffman Theater, which is located in the Pascal Center for Performing Arts (near the Truxal Library). This event is free and open to the public!

While preparing for tonight's event, I was informed that the featured performer canceled at the last minute.  I love being the Mistress of Ceremonies, but I will also be the featured performer.  I haven't been center-stage in a while.  To top it off, they're calling for "The Wizard of Oz" type weather. Wish me luck!

Sleeping too well?

Nothing beats pain better than a prescription that I cannot take during the week (if I want to stay awake in class).  I slept very well last night.  I seriously wonder when the pain will finally GO AWAY!!! Anyway, the snow is beautiful, but I cannot touch it for fear of wetting the beloved cast. Thank God for the people who get paid to clear most of the icy stuff up for me.  I have no plans of going anywhere, so I will be plucking away at these lovely keys. Ibuprofen is my new friend.

Conferencing Technology

While I am not too fond of the BigBlueButton, I can say that Yang did a nice presentation. I was unable to hear her, but I was able to see her five-topic memo. We shared ours and exchanged comments and suggestions. The conference technology can be beneficial, but may not always work the way one might desire.

On the road to healing...

It has taken me a longer time to compose this, as I am sporting a bright, blue cast.  Although I will not admit to crying, let us just say my eyes responded to the intense pressure used when applying it.  Can you imagine how I felt as my daughter asked, "Mom, are you crying?"  Of course I was not!  My eyes were.

I am pressed by deadlines, only able to medicate on weekends, and trying to get through the next several weeks.  I am on the road to healing and looking forward to feeling better through it all.
See some of you soon!

Online Conferencing

I had the opportunity to have a few online conferences this weekend and each one was different.  The BigBlueButton is not as easy to maneuver from home as it appeared to be in the lab setting.  The audio function initially made me sound as if trapped in an echoing cavern, while the video worked rather well. Top this all off with being physically compromised and the entire experience received mixed reviews.

I enjoyed getting to know my classmates better, despite being knocked out of the conference room, then possessing the ability to see, but not hear the other person, which forced us to type messages in order to convey our responses to one another.  There were other disappointing limitations in features as well, but I am in too much pain to go into those details. I just hope to get all of the kinks out before I actually need to have an online conference.

Jack Frost Nipping at My Feet?

While attempting to get some work done on my vehicle yesterday, I got out of my ride and made it to the sidewalk. I didn't feel him nipping, but I was a sore woman down. Jack Frost was on the wrong end - obviously nipping at my feet ... Lord only knows how I'll meet all of life's requirements with my non-dominant hand in the days ahead.  We shall see.

Online Conferencing

While familiar with many new features provided in the web-based component of the English 391 course, this will be the first time that I have experienced the online conferencing feature. I am as excited as I am hesitant about using it outside of the lab. Most of the apprehension may come from my inexperience. Overall, it should prove to be an interesting experience. We shall see ...
